Things That Will Bring Back Memories
So another year has gone by, yet again, and it's crazy to see kids these days thinking I'm old school, I'm thinking uhhhh WHAT:!? But I stumped across a few things that brought me back and its strange ways, kind of like when you smell a perfume a grandmother wore or a vintage toy you forgot about. Well I know we are all from different generations, but here it goes! Things that are like OMG today! MSN MESSENGER Remember your "Status?" It was the most significant thing! Spending ages thinking of something cool. Then you spent six hours a day at school with your friends, but after the final bell, you'd still run home quickly to chat online. Why? Why? Wearing jelly sandals with everything. They were waterproof, sweet, more refreshing than flip-flops. And, when you insisted on wearing them for dressy occasions, your mom pissed off. Jelly's 4 life sandals! Xanga The BLOG to have - which then turned to WordPress and all those others! A stunning blogging site in the early '00s, home to anguished missives and awkward flirtations of teenagers and young adults around the world. And while its star started to dim a few years ago, now it's on the brink of extinction – and that's a shame because it hosts some of the ridiculous stuff on the internet. You were trying to rub candy necklace indents off your neck. Edible jewellery was the height of fashion — or so your self-conscious 90s thought. Unfortunately, candy necklaces left pastel stains on your neck, but a snack you should wear? What's not love? Being Obsessed with Your Colorful iMac Bebo Need I say more, remember those hearts people could give you? Looking back, what was that about?! Spending hours making your Bebo skins using paint Yes, it is an artistic masterpiece. Those 'who's hotter' polls were the terrifying things you could post. Singing Along to the AOL Dial-Up Noise Although getting the world at your disposal today is pretty impressive in seconds, there was something a little fun about the excitement that came with logging into AOL and singing along to its chorus of screeches as you waited for the homepage to pop up naturally, unless your mom picked the phone. Hot Or Not? The platform (which I guess would be like tinder now? ) Having a Lip Smacker for Every Day of the Week Your typical machine was cool, of course, but if you wanted to stun your buddies in the 1990s, you splurged on a colourful iMac. Although their functionality wasn't drastically different from other computers at the time, looking back at your Bondi Blue machine although waiting for Netscape to load felt like an exciting new adventure. Internet Connection Remember how long it used to take with that noise, followed by will it connect will it not! Ohhhh the moments! Finally connected your are thinking "YES ok ok ok what was I doing before I have to get off or the power fails!" The World Wide Web was created in 1989, but it really started in the '90s. Sure, you had to use dial-up and loading straightforward websites took forever, but the internet was so cool. You needed only 15 minutes to become an excellent graphic designer. Chain Letter Need I say more, the number of times letters/emails were received, and you freaked out! Capri Sun without breaking it. Capri Suns are great straight-up and were pretty groundbreaking when it first came out. It took some practice, but it was a severe skill to work out how to open one without jamming your straw through the top (or finger). All the margins of your notebook were covered with secret signs. Trying (and failing) to keep your Tamagotchi alive. At the time, having a Tamagotchi seemed like a smart idea — it was like a cat, except you didn't have to clean it up. But after two days of forgetting to feed and play with it, you loved it.
