"People go to the zoo and they like the lion because it's scary. And the bear because it's intense, but the monkey makes people laugh."
I love photos and looking back at old adventures of growing up, having spent most of my life overseas I thought it would be a nice idea to share some of my experiences through photos, something you might like to do as well, bring your past to life through voyages of memories.
Starting off with the first image, it has to be one of my favourites, having spent over 4 years in Bangladesh Dhaka, we had many crazy fun trips around, this photo was taken when I was 5. My friend had a pet monkey, which made a lot of entertaining times, didn’t help he bit my brother before we were about to leave back to the Netherlands....
"Cat in the Box"
Bingo for Christmas, this is one of my best memories, all I wanted was a white kitten, fluffy and playful, years on end I would ask until one year for Christmas Santa left a massive box by the tree which had Bingo in, I was 8 at the time living in Africa, Namibia in Windhoek.
"We shall never know all the good that a simple smile can do."
This is a massive keeper, having had a family trip to India, we had the chance to meet and greet as well as spend some time with Mother Teresa, unfortunatly at the ages and time my younger brother and I hadnt a clue to who she was but having later grown up and understood as well as recieved a small prayer and gift from her, I learnt the true change she shows the world.
"Multi culture wedding in Ireland"
Now.... You might be wondering what is going on here, well to keep it short, in 2000 my Aunt and Uncle got married, we were still in Vietnam at the time, hint my sister dressing like that. We almost never saw our family due to being overseas which made it so nice coming back for weddings!
"Birthday Girl in Africa"
My 9th birthday, back in Namibia I had my friends come round to celebrate, play pass the parcel and eat a Barbie cake. Still in contact with them all to this day, some live down the road now and others still over seas. Such a classic memory.
“The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.” ― Eleanor Roosevelt
Family adventures and trips in Africa were key. We always went on crazy long trips and picnics. On a 12 hour car journey we managed to stop and see the views, have a break and of course my mum with her old school camera that takes ages to take of photo would snap away, here I am with my older sister and younger brother... Oh how fashion has changed!
There you have it, 6 of my great memories in growing up, I have so much more but most of them are packed in albums or back in Holland, I did this exercise to show you the true beauty of growing up and never taking things for granted, I want to know what your great experiences are and what you have stored away that you might have forgotten about...
